WebVeta allows you to add and manage domains and blogs for indexing and searching. This documentation covers the process of adding domains, blogs, and validating them to ensure proper ownership and functionality.
Adding a Domain
Prerequisites:
- You must be logged in to your WebVeta account
- You need to have a client created in the system
- The domain must be accessible on the internet
Steps to Add a Domain
- Click on “Add your own Domains and Sub-Domains” button
- Fill in the following information:
Domain Name: Enter the domain you want to add (e.g., example.com) - Entry URLs: Specify the starting URLs for crawling (comma-separated)
- Index Subdomains: Check this option if you want to include subdomains
- Read and accept the consent agreement
- Click “Add Domain” to submit
Domain Validation Methods
After adding a domain, you must validate ownership using one of the following methods:
File-Based Validation
- WebVeta generates a unique filename and content
- Create a text file with the provided name at the root of your domain
- Add the provided content to the file
- Click “Validate File” in the domain settings
- WebVeta will check for the file and verify its contents
DNS-Based Validation
- WebVeta provides a TXT record name and value
- Add the TXT record to your domain’s DNS settings
- Click “Validate DNS” in the domain settings
- WebVeta will check for the TXT record and verify its value
Important Notes on Validation:
- You have up to 20 attempts for validation
- Validation must be completed before indexing can begin
- The validation status is displayed in the domain details page
Adding a Blog
WebVeta supports indexing blogs from major platforms including:
- Medium
- Blogspot
- WordPress
Steps to Add a Blog:
- Navigate to the Domains section in your dashboard
- Click on “Add Blogs hosted on 3rd party” button
- Select “Blog” as the domain type
- Choose the blogging platform from the dropdown
- Enter your blog subdomain (e.g., yourblog for yourblog.medium.com)
- Accept the consent agreement
- Click “Add Blog” to submit
Blog Validation Process:
- After adding a blog, WebVeta provides a unique title for a blog post
- Create a new blog post with the exact title provided
- Publish the blog post
- Enter the URL of the published post in the validation form
- Click “Validate Blog Post”
- WebVeta will verify the RSS feed of your blog to verify the post
Troubleshooting
Common Validation Issues
File Validation Fails:
- Ensure the file is at the root of your domain
- Verify the file has the exact name provided
- Check that the file contains the exact content provided
- Make sure the file is accessible via HTTPS
DNS Validation Fails:
- Verify you added the TXT record to the correct domain
- Ensure the TXT record has the exact name and value provided
- Allow time for DNS propagation (can take up to 48 hours)
- Check your DNS settings with your domain provider
Blog Validation Fails:
- Ensure the blog post title matches exactly
- Verify the blog post is published and publicly accessible
- Check that the URL provided is correct
- Make sure the blog’s RSS feed is working properly, sometimes blog RSS feeds could take upto 15 minutes
